RECOMMENDATIONS FOR AUXILIARY & MAIN FUEL TANKS
We recommend that you use the fuel in the auxiliary fuel tanks on a regular basis throughout the boating season. In addition, the tanks should be checked for water accumulation at least once annually. Water can condense within the tanks, especially in high humidity areas, and collect in the bottom of the tank. Over a period of time the water can react with the fuel in the tank and create a highly corrosive mixture. This mixture can corrode the tank from the inside.
It is always recommended that tanks be maintained at the full level during infrequent use or storage. The reason for this recommendation would be to eliminate any air space within the tank and consequently reduce the possibility of water condensation. NOTE: This also pertains to the main fuel tanks if the boat is not used for long periods of time (less than once per month) and the fuel is not used down to at least ¼ level.
SYNOPSIS:
1. Use the fuel in all tanks as often and as complete as possible.
2. Always keep the tanks full of fuel during storage and during periods of infrequent use.
3. Avoid use of alcohol based fuels.
4. Have the tanks tested annually for water.
OPTIONS FOR THE DETECTION AND/OR REMOVAL OF WATER IN A FUEL TANK.
RECOMMENDED THAT OPTION 1 AND 2 BE PERFORMED BY AN AUTHORIZED TRAINED MARINE TECHNICIAN.
1. Removal of the inspection plate in the top of the tank or removal of the fuel gauge sender, followed by a visual inspection or by means of water detection paste on the end of a probe. This method is used by bulk fuel tank inspection technicians. Information can be obtained from your local fuel distributor. If water is detected, it would be pumped out thru this same inspection place/sender hole. This water detection paste is also available from Marine Development and Research Corp. www.mdramazon.com The product number is MDR 566.
2. Insertion of a Water Magnet thru the tank inspection plate. Information on the Water Magnet product can be obtained from the Aqua Sorb Products website: www.watermagnet.com
3. Addition of a water emulsifying fuel additive from the MDR Corporation. Information on this product can be obtained from the Marine Development and Research Corp. website. www.mdramazon.com The MDR products to be used would be MDR-567 for gasoline and MDR-559 for diesel fuel. The installation of these products would require that the fuel in the tanks be used as soon as possible to complete the process of removing any possible water in the tanks.
